Demo for November: ‘Blazing Skies’

So far I’ve held to my commitment: one song as a demo per month and one Munhwa Experience cartoon per week since going through my brief ‘mid-age crisis’. The latest demo is somewhat of a knee-jerk reaction to America’s election of Donald Trump and my fears for state of our planet -not just with global warming but general pollution problems. Personally, as an Australian, I’m also concerned about natural gas fracking and the damage it as on underwater reservoirs.

Anyways, he’s the song which I’ve uploaded on to Soundcloud and Reverbnation. I’ve written the lyrics below.

(Verse 1)
Once in a past time, I laughed and held your hand.
Once in an old world, we cared less.
Once many a day gone, we surfed a rising curve
Once many a day gone, we lived like kings.

(Bridge 1)
Now I see the wrinkles round your eyes as you just shrug your shoulders
Now we stoop and watch the streams go by

(Chorus)
Don’t look back now Keep on moving closer
Towards the future that’s stopped smiling at us

(Verse 2)
In the halcyon days, we lived on borrowed time
In the halcyon days, we roamed the world

(Bridge 2)
Now those days are gone and I’m alone and your whole face is fading
Now there’s nothing left but memories

(Chorus)
Don’t look back now Keep on moving closer
Towards the future that’s stopped smiling at us

(Bridge 3)
Now we’re treading washed up waters sliding down a downward curve
Now we feel the heat from blazing skies

End of a Blog…

Off Topic No Words

I’ve decided to ‘decommission’ this blog as I focus my efforts elsewhere. I’ll leave it up for maybe 6 months or a year, and then if the view stats are limp will mostly likely delete the whole blog. I know I could just keep it up, but in this world of so much white noise on the internet, it bothers me that I’m adding to it if there’s no purpose.

Regarding my music and demos, I may start something under my muso name ‘Donak RV’, though it could be just a Facebook page or something. At the moment I have a presence on Twitter and Soundcloud which I will continue for my demoes…

I will continue the ‘Struggling Muso’ cartoon series over at Munhwa Experience, and you can follow it under the Strugmo category (or at http://munhwaexperience.wordpress.com/category/struggling-muso/). Of course you can buy the book of the first two annals from this blog on iTunes.

Mastered track…

Here it is, a song I got professionally mixed and mastered. But I won’t sell it, it’s available for download on Soundcloud -too much of a hassle to put up on iTunes and other sites, often requiring more payments and fees while I don’t expect many, if any, people to pay to download it.

The name’s from a screenplay I’m working on, I guess it’s like an accompaniment in my mind.

Myspace come back

I think Myspace been trying to reinvent itself because I checked my account the other day and there’s been lots of changes like the left to right scrolling action. Anyway, I didn’t see much press about it until I did a specific search, and found this. But I thought I’d upload my latest song onto it just to see how things go…

Demo for October

This is the first demo for October which was done on Garageband. I also have another demo for October 2013, but done on Reaper software. Reaper’s a bit more technical to use (I find) and not so geared to just loops and beats like Garageband. It’s inhouse synth is pretty primitive, but it’s for that reason I like to play around with it.

And here’s a gag…

Taipei Loitering

I’m still in Taipei, loitering in a cheap hostel before I head over to Japan to start my teaching contract.

Since I don’t have access to a guitar at the moment I’ve been using Garageband and Reaper to bring my music musings into play.  My latest ‘amatreunic’ tracks are on Soundcloud:

My latest demo…My Dark City

This is a bit of a sentimental bluesy number about my days in Taipei… It’s the first song I’ve recorded and mixed using Garageband on my new Macbook Pro.

Music and KPIs…

On one of the music bloggers I was reading the other day I was struck by a comment made by one indie artist who said that reading books on marketing has made a huge difference on how she has been running her music career/business. In fact she stated her goal was to read one book a week -I guess she has lots of time when travelling on tour…

Well, I don’t have a music business, but I thought it would be useful since the principles of online marketing can be applicable to any online endeavour really. So I borrowed “Online Marketing” from the library for a bit of inspiration -one key point to note was having KPIs -Key Performance Indicators.

In the information age it’s easy to get statistics on almost everything -even free online social media accounts have quite sophisticated stats these days -just check out Youtube. But the danger is getting overwhelmed by too many stats, too much info -the ‘white noise’ so to speak. How does one focus?

But first deciding what your personal goals are, and then aligning those goals with the relevant statistics -these are the Kep Performance Indicators. The stats that won’t just give you info, but will tell you whether you’re getting closer to your goal or not and hopefully motivate you to improve next time.

So now I have to go back to the drawing board and decide what my KPIs are. Are they just hits, or people who stay, like subscribers etc ?

Used creative commons in latest vid with “most accommodating of licenses”

I thought I’d give the creative commons a try rather than just using “Copyright 2010 Donald Fraser”… which allows more flexibility if someone wants to use, sample or mash it up -not that they’d neccessarily worry. As mentioned, the ‘Attribution License’ is the ‘most accommodating’, using the letters “cc by” or the icon etc…

If you’re not familiar with the Creative Commons, you can check it out here

And here’s another shameless sefl-plug…
